New XDCAM EX Cameras announced by Sony

Sony has expanded the XDCAM EX line with the announcement of two new camcorders, the PMW-350 and the PMW-EX1R.
Both provide 23.98p native recording and powerful Slow and Quick Motion (over-cranking and under-cranking).
As well as high definition, both come equipped with standard def, DVCAM, recording and playback to provide a smooth transition to High Def production.

The PMW-350 is the first shoulder-mount camcorder in the XDCAM EX group.
It sets the standard for image quality with the cutting-edge imaging technology of three 2/3-inch-type “Exmor” full-HD CMOS sensors.
They deliver extremely high-quality images with high sensitivity and a high signal-to-noise ratio.

This camera is studio-configurable, with timecode in/out, genlock in, and HD-SDI and HDMI out.

The PMW-350 has an interchangeable lens system. It can be purchased with an HD lens with 16x zoom (Model PMW-350K, shown in the photo).
For those who wish to select a lens, the model is the PMW-350L.

The PMW-EX1R, with a fixed zoom lens, replaces the PMW-EX1 and builds on its strengths.
Added features: an HDMI output, a higher-resolution viewfinder, cache recording, and one-push auto iris.
An IR remote control receptor on the rear of the handle provides control of the PMW-EX1R with a remote commander™ from both the front and rear of the camcorder.

Updated Clip Browser software (v.2.6) is supplied with the new camcorders. New functions will include: support for new recording formats 1440×1080 (HQ), DV-AVI, and four-channel audio.

Both cameras use the SxS Memory Card for recording media - available at Videoscope.

Additional Features:
The PMW-EX1R and PMW-350 have a Slow Shutter function for capturing clear images in low-light.
They also offer an Interval Recording function that allows single frame recording at pre-determined intervals.

Ergonomic enhancements to both cameras include an improved hand grip for better balance, one-click S&Q mode and more easily accessed switches.

The cameras will be available at Videoscope, late in November, 2009.
