Field Notes from the Engineering Team
Videoscope salutes a new era at the ROM with the official Architectural Opening and Building Dedication of the Michael Lee-Chin Crystal that was held on June 2nd.
The Videoscope Engineering Team played a small part in the grand opening, installing the Sony LCD displays in the spectacular entrance on Bloor at Avenue Road.
The Crystal has been much publicized as heralding a new "architectural age" in Toronto as well as a new era for the Royal Ontario Museum.
There are two clusters of displays: seven in the General Admission area and five in the Members area.
The 40" LCDs are Sony model FWD-40LX2 monitors. Sony describes the exceptional performance of these monitors: “High brightness, superior contrast and super-fast 8 ms video response time combine to deliver crisp, clear text and smooth motion images for video applications.”

Content for the displays is played back from Sony NSP-1 digital signage players. Along with audio, these media players can display five image layers: graphics, video and text as well as taking a live video feed along with material stored on the hard drive.
